Soon Hee Newbold has been named a recipient of the 2026 ASTA Orchestra Repertoire & Literature Award, presented by the American String Teachers Association.

An internationally acclaimed composer, Newbold’s works are performed by ensembles around the world, ranging from professional symphonies to beginning orchestras. Her music has been commissioned by organizations including the Atlanta Symphony’s Merian Ensemble, the Brevard Symphony, and the Los Angeles Philharmonic’s YOLA program.

In addition to her work as a composer, Newbold is a sought-after keynote speaker and clinician, and has conducted and collaborated with ensembles globally. In 2024, she was inducted into the Women Songwriters Hall of Fame in recognition of her contributions to the music industry.

This latest recognition from ASTA highlights her ongoing impact on orchestral repertoire and music education.
