Soon Hee Newbold recently worked directly with students from the Jonas E. Salk Middle School Orchestra in Levittown, New York, offering a hands-on workshop experience centered around her music.
During the session, students from sixth through eighth grade had the opportunity to engage with the composer behind the pieces they are preparing to perform. Through a question-and-answer discussion and live rehearsal feedback, Newbold shared insight into the creative process—demonstrating how musical ideas develop and evolve into finished works.
The workshop included real-time collaboration, as students performed excerpts while receiving guidance on interpretation and technique. The experience gave young musicians a deeper understanding of both the music itself and the artistry behind it.
